Nic has a very down to earth approach, and believes that someone’s decision to seek out therapeutic support to deal with something they may have been struggling with for a while takes a lot of courage. She uses a combination of somatic psycho-education, CBT, DBT, and strengths based narrative work.
Nic has over thirty five years’ experience in the field of social work and mental health, including provision of therapeutic interventions for workplace and motor vehicle accident trauma, emergency services, self-harm and suicidality. This has incorporated provision of critical incident debriefing to groups including construction workers post industrial accidents, hospital staff following assaults, and emergency services personnel.
She has also:
- worked as a specialist family violence counsellor for over ten years, both in community services sector and in private practice, and has facilitated a therapeutic group program for survivors of intimate partner violence/abuse.
- worked as a therapist providing support and advocacy for National Redress Scheme applications for survivors of institutional child sexual abuse.
- worked in regional areas and understands the challenges of locating resources to meet mental health demand.
- worked with people struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, grief and loss, new parenthood, and disability.
In addition to completing her Behavioural Science and Social Work degrees, Nic has completed further study in the field of interpersonal neurobiology, based on the work of Drs Peter Levine, Bessel Van der Kolk, and Stephen Porges. This field is at the forefront of diagnosing and treating trauma related illness based on the body’s sympathetic and parasympathetic reactions.
